MEET LAERSKOOL TRICHARDT
A school with tradition, vision and people who care
Our History

The history of Laerskool Trichardt dates back to 1888, when the first school was established on Vaalbank. From these humble beginnings, with a small number of learners and dedicated teachers, the school has grown over the decades into a well-established educational institution in the community.
In 1904, a new school building was erected, and by 1913 the current school building was brought into use. Instruction was initially offered in both Dutch and English, with an enrolment of only 35 learners. In the years that followed, learner numbers gradually increased, leading to the addition of more classrooms and ongoing improvements.

During the early 1900s, the school experienced challenging times, including the outbreak of the First World War and changes in staff. Despite this, the school persevered and continued to develop. By the 1920s, the school had already established a strong identity, with Afrikaans beginning to take its place as a language of instruction.
In the decades that followed, Laerskool Trichardt expanded continuously — new facilities were built, sport developed strongly, and the school excelled academically and culturally. By the early 1990s, learner numbers had grown to more than 400 learners. The school achieved several provincial-level sport and cultural accomplishments and also made structural improvements to its buildings and grounds.

Today, Laerskool Trichardt stands proudly as a school with a rich heritage spanning over a century, built on values of perseverance, discipline, and community involvement. Our history is not just a story of buildings and numbers, but of people — learners, teachers, and parents — who have together created a lasting legacy of excellence.

Support Services
Liefde in Aksie
At Laerskool Trichardt, we believe every learner deserves the best opportunities, not only in the classroom but also in their daily lives. We are proud of the variety of initiatives we have to support our less privileged learners and their families.
Nutrition is the foundation for learning, which is why we provide a daily meal (each break) offering essential meals to our learners who need it. We are also grateful for the wonderful support from "Vissies vir Jesus", who provide delicious treat meals twice a week. These extras always bring a smile to a child’s face.
With the long December holiday in mind, we run our annual food parcel project. Through this initiative, each family in need from our school receives a food parcel for the holiday, ensuring that learners’ basic needs are met even during the school break.

Santa's Shoebox
Another highlight is our regular participation in the Santa Shoebox initiative. Through this initiative, each less privileged learner receives a box filled with school supplies, clothing, toys, and treats. It is an unforgettable gift that not only provides material support but also brings hope and excitement.

Helpende Hand
We are fortunate to be part of Helpende Hand’s annual schoolbag project, ensuring that less privileged learners can start their first school year with the necessary stationery and schoolbags. Additionally, we regularly receive shoe donations, helping our learners attend school with pride and comfort.
